Title: Insulated panel mount banana FAIL Story - Made in China Toys
Post by: Kiriakos GR on October 15, 2024, 02:22:05 PM
Few years ago I did one DIY AC splitter box, full size with permanent instruments and banana plugs so external instrument to be used for measuring of voltage and current.

This box was never misused, regarding high AC currents, most of times the load is 160mA up to 1.2A
And today I had one mysterious panel mount banana failure.

The master pin this were pop-out ....  from the plastic housing, and thankfully nothing shorted, because this line was transferring 220V AC at the output Mains socket.
The master pin when out simply due the matting force of a male banana.  :P

Should I use Super Glue ? (This is childish thinking).

The point is that when you do burn you money by buying unbranded connectors (eBay , Aliexpress , etc etc ) you cannot imagine of what degree you have been cheated.

This incident its very serious,  naked master pin loaded with 230V, it had free fall inside of a metallic cabinet (grounded).
In my case I did stand lucky,  no short-circuit and  no fireworks.

Most economical branded similar product this is retailed at 1,6 Euro per piece, including VAT in Greece.
EU .. Ten plugs 1.6 x 10 = 16 Euro
Aliexpress ... twenty panel mount banana for 12 Euro

Now even my self I have to reconsider and stop buying Chinese toys for good.
Its a fact, most Chinese hate branding because they toss away any responsibility about their poor made work.

This female banana seems as cracked at the back, the quality of the material its low quality plastic.

Stock images could be elusive, my vote goes also at branded components.
I do prefer panel mount banana with screw and nut.

This is a very serious event.  :(

You need to remove and replace all similar products at your project.
