HIOKI PW3335 single phase power meter 100kHz - All it secrets
« on: September 29, 2024, 01:03:27 PM »
Within 2023 ~ 2024, I did explore most of branded offerings as single phase power meter 100kHz.
And I did leave the HIOKI PW3335 as last.

Back in time, year 2015, HIOKI introduced HIOKI PW3335 Series.
This be a dedicated series capable for measuring AC/DC Standby Power .... Up to Large Power Loads.

I was had to combine information's of six documents, so to discover All it secrets
The PW3335 as standalone power meter, it is one of the kings at measuring accuracy.

But this is not enough if you plan to use it as all-round power meter in a small lab, and to take advantage of Waveform output along of the option at connecting External current clamp probe.

What becomes know after a deep dive in to product documentation, this is that actual product model which can deliver all above requirements, this is only the HIOKI PW3335-04
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HIOKI got in too much trouble so to advertise the connectivity of their own External current clamp probe series.
And it is almost hidden the supported Current Sensor Ratio, 10mV/A or 100mV/A and so on.
PW3335-04 instrument menu has support for TYPE 1 and TYPE 2 families of EXT current clamp.

TYPE 1 = support of 0.5mV/A and of 1mA/A
TYPE 2 = support of 10mV ,  100mV , 1V/A  etc etc

The user manual does dot explain in detail, any required steps so to manually, the user to configure the instrument for a specific external current clamp sensor.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Waveform output
This is equal to Yokogawa G5 option for their WT310E.

In theory and due PC software, the instrument will be able to deliver Harmonics analysis along Voltage and Current Waveform.
Depending of supplied software due any manufacturer, Voltage and Current Waveform may appear as separated and or as combined.
HIOKI software for PW3335-04, this delivers Voltage and Current Waveform as separated, in two windows.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An third crucial detail this has to do with PW3335 (all models) when they operate at fastest integration speed.
At integration speed of 200ms, PW3335 loses half of named DC bandwidth.
Supported Frequency bands DC, 0.1 Hz to 100 kHz, this now become DC, 0.1 Hz to 50 kHz

In theory, PW3335 sampling frequency Approx. 700 kHz, this should be sufficient for a wider support of frequency bands.

Did HIOKI sacrificed electronics performance at PW3335, so to push forwards their most expensive power analyzer?

HIOKI PW3335-04 this is now ten years in the market, HIOKI informs about product aging limits, ten years after production for electrolytic capacitors alone.
Another source of damage it might be internal EPROM chip that retains its data.

In conclusion, these are most essential secrets, if you consider PW3335 as new or used equipment.

In the positive side of things, HIOKI calibration report (PW3335) includes as lowest current value, 0.010 mA and next level up 1.000 mA at 55Hz testing conditions, direct input connection.
External Current clamp, minimum tested current at calibration report, this is at 100 mA.

( HIOKI PW3335-04 this is nowadays at price range of approximately 3000 EUR with VAT )
