HRC fuse removal tool for multimeter?
« on: January 13, 2025, 10:30:08 PM »
I do wonder if there is out there any HRC fuse removal tool for multimeter?

Yes you may use a pair of pliers or push a fuse with a screwdriver.
But what if you are up to extract the fuse, with out causing even a scratch at the fuse body?

My web-search shown as first solution, the Bussmann FP2 FUSE PULLER, but this thing its not for tight spaces as is a DMM fuse compartment.
All other search results, demonstrate tools for car fuses.

Bussmann has some sort of a range of tools, and FP2 is the smaller, but its too large for DMM.
SIBA does not appear having given any though for making a tool.

It might be a good business idea, some one to design out there such a Fuse Puller  :)

I will add few ideas on the table.

I have one and of my own, but it is untested yet.
I will probably need to destroy a fork, so to test if it works.  :)

People, I have mixed feelings about this tool.

For example, not all HH DMM has been build equally regarding fuse compartment.
For example:
U1272A / U1273A,  they have HRC clip holder made of tremendously hard metal.
HIOKI DT4482 fuse clip this is made of softer metal, and or the distance from the PCB this is longer, and this aloud it to flex more?

About FLUKE DMM, I have now the 8846A.
And the CNX3000 HH DMM, this has only 440mA Fuse.

My thoughts, according to DMM models in your ownership, your are going to need a totally different tool / fuse extraction approach.

For U1272A / U1273A, they are by design, a plastic slot per fuse, so a screwdriver to do the work. (clips side).
For HIOKI DT4482, the screwdriver this should be placed at the right side, this pushing upwards entire fuse body.
For Fluke 8846A, this has special fuses compartment, I will classify at DMM that fuses replacement its easy.

For ancient FLUKE 87 you have to take the meter apart.  :P

I made my DIY tool, from a hard spring.
This might do the job in anything other that the U1272..
I just insert the hook side ways at the HRC fuse end, then slightly rotate it, and then I do a pull action.

Interesting approach  8)
Single side 90 degree extractor, it brings memories of a dentist tool.

It's a fact that required pulling force for a HRC fuse, this is greater than what needed for glass type fuse.

I wish to thank you both for the offered suggestions.
