Basically this advice is for all of us, but the young ones are the ones that should be alerted mostly.
Due recent safety rules most manufacturers added HRC 1000V or 600V fuses in their multimeter, the voltage selection of these fuses is made according the specifications of its multimeter.
HRC Fuse benefits:
a) Fast acting
b) Capable to disrupt a shortcut even in high current sources, by minimizing the risk of arc flash.
c) Additionally the fast acting fuse protects the multimeter it self from damage ( PCB and active components). The time needed for such a fuse to react is taken under consideration when a multimeter is at the design stage, so all components inside relative to ampere measurments to not get oveloaded and cause fire or explosion.
HRC Fuse downside:
Expensive.. Expensive.. Expensive.. Expensive..
Lately from Europe and even up to Japan, BUSSMAN Fuses retail price is up to 10- 15EUR or more, and to Japan at 1000 Yen.
And the question is how to convince and stop one individual from doing the foolish thing of bridging the Fuse with a piece of wire ?
I would suggest to all marketing specialist working in multimeter manufacturing plus sales and distribution, to come down in a agreement with BUSSMAN so pricing to drop down at the specific item, HRC fuses for multimeter it should stop considered as merchandize, because the lack of cash in grownups and especially in Kids, will force them to improvise and convert a safe multimeter in to human traps.
