One great software utility so to view and troubleshoot IR-USB PC connectivity issues.

Some times the USB connectivity between Infrared USB modules with your PC or laptop it is not possible because the data logging software is assuming that your IR-USB cable will be identified among a specific range of USB to serial communication ports.

Other times when you plug your IR-USB cable in to a PC, it is possible Windows (operating system) to nag due a screen saying that this port it can perform in a higher speed but now it does not.
 
USB Device Tree Viewer is capable to offer one X-Ray of the USB subsystem of your computer.
